Do you know what Bards do?
They learn stuff – demonstrable, actionable things that can be shared on the spot. Sing a song? Check. Recite a poem? Got it. Tell us a tale? Gladly!
This picture shows the evolving repertoire of one of my dearest and most long-standing Bardic Academy students. At present she knows 99 traditional Irish songs. She can sing them for you from memory. Beautifully, too, I might add.
It has taken years to create and embody this impressive repertoire.
In a world where we offload memory into devices and apps, where fewer and fewer can stand up and speak or sing without clutching an iPad or reading a teleprompter, the Bard commits to a deeper level of learning and engagement. She learns BY HEART.
And because of that, she carries treasures everywhere she goes!
